Welcome

The goal of the Aboriginal Teacher Education Consortium (ATEC) is to increase the number certified Aboriginal teachers in order to bring more Aboriginal perspectives and Aboriginal role models into BC schools, for the benefit of all students.

Thinking about becoming an educator? The ATEC webpages are full of resources to support you to make a good decision about whether a teaching career is in your future.

Whatever your choice, we want you to have accurate information so that you can make the best decision for you. Deciding what to do after high school is one of the biggest choices you’ll ever make – this website and the accompanying TEACH handbook are tools to help you make those decisions wisely.

Being a teacher also puts you in a place where you can…

  • Make a hands-on difference in young lives
  • Be a positive role model for all students
  • Share your knowledge on First Nations culture and languages
  • Make a positive difference to future generations
  • Be part of a community of teachers
  • Build your skills through ongoing professional development
  • Become active to improve First Nations education at the provincial and national level

Teaching is a great career with benefits, a dependable salary, security and a schedule that is compatible with family life.
