At Seabird Island on July 11th, four First Nations – Cowichan Tribes, Lil’wat Nation, ʔaq’am, and Seabird Island – will be recognized for achieving self-government over education on their lands. The event is also a celebration of the establishment of the First Nations Education Authority (FNEA), effective July 1, 2022, which will support the implementation of jurisdiction and be comprised of two directors appointed by each Participating First Nation.

Hosted by the FNEA and Seabird Island, the event will feature a cultural celebration and speakers from Participating First Nations, First Nations Leadership, the FNEA, the First Nations Education Steering Committee, Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs Canada, and the Province of British Columbia.
