The First Nations Education Steering Committee is hosting a one-day Post-Secondary Education (PSE) Gathering on October 25, 2024, at the Vancouver Marriot Pinnacle Downtown Hotel in Vancouver (Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh territories).
The purpose of this gathering is to provide an update and seek further direction on the development of the BC First Nations Tripartite Post-Secondary Education Model (PSE Model) and its four pillars which include:
- First Nation Learners
- First Nations-Mandated Post-Secondary Institutes
- Community-Based Program Delivery
- Respectful and Responsive Public Post-Secondary System
Agenda Highlights
- An update on milestones achieved to date in advancing the PSE Model, including the new First Nations Mandated Post-Secondary Institutes Act.
- An update on implementation of post-secondary related actions in the BC Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Action Plan.
- A discussion of the legislative, policy and funding considerations related to all four pillars of the PSE Model.

Who is eligible to attend?
Participation is limited to two representatives per BC First Nation/Tribal Council. We recommend that one person be a political representative (e.g., Chief or Band Council member) and one person be an education technical representative (e.g., post-secondary coordinator, First Nations-mandated institute staff). Advance registration is required.
There will be a waitlist for additional participants. Maximum venue capacity applies.
Travel Expenses
Travel is reimbursable for up to two representatives per BC First Nation or Tribal Council. See link to the sample travel claim (including policies) on the event webpage.
Health
Please stay home if you are feeling unwell. Only registered participants are eligible to attend. Family and friends cannot attend the event at any time, including for meals. The decision to attend in-person events is a personal one and it should be made in consideration of your individual risk factors and vulnerabilities.
