Post-Secondary

FNESC is committed to ensuring that First Nations students have access to relevant, high quality education at all levels, including the post-secondary level.  For many years, FNESC has had an active post-secondary subcommittee that provides leadership and technical knowledge to inform this work.

FNESC is also a member and coordinator of the BC Indigenous Post-Secondary Education and Training Partners Group (PSE Partners), which includes a number of bodies that meet regularly to discuss relevant issues and find ways to work together to increase the success of Indigenous learners in post-secondary and to increase overall accountability and reporting mechanisms.

To provide direct to support to First Nations communities around administering PSE funding, developing local operating agreements and other aspects of post-secondary administration, FNESC offers a PSE Resource Line and workshops and resources for First Nations PSE Coordinators.  FNESC also strives to share current post-secondary news, including within its PSE newsletter.

In its post-secondary efforts, FNESC works on collaboration with the Indigenous Adult and Higher Learning Association, an organization dedicated to support the Indigenous-controlled higher learning institutes in BC. With IAHLA FNESC works to forge effective, respectful partnerships between Indigenous institutes and public post-secondary institutions and appropriate recognition of the contributions of indigenous institutes to the broader BC post-secondary system.
