Dear PSE Coordinators and IAHLA Member Institutes,
Please note the following COVID-19 updates from the Province, which were developed for public post-secondary institutions in BC. We are sharing the updates with First Nations and IAHLA institutes as there may be information that will be useful to you in your planning, recognizing that not all details will be relevant.
Post-secondary Institution Housing COVID-19 Preventive Measures Order Update:
On February 18, 2022, the Provincial Health Officer extended the Post-Secondary Housing COVID-19 Preventive Measures Order to expire June 30, 2022. This order requires students living in residence must be vaccinated and show proof of vaccination. If they are not vaccinated or cannot provide proof of vaccination, they must wear a face covering which covers the resident’s nose and mouth when in any area of post-secondary housing, other than the resident’s room.
Gatherings and Events Order Update:
The Provincial Health Officer updated the Gatherings and Events Order on February 16, 2022. The changes include the following:
- Restrictions on activities such as exercise, fitness and dance have been removed and adult sports tournaments are now permitted.
- Proof of vaccination and mask wearing requirements have been retained.
- Post-secondary institution graduation ceremonies and related events are excluded from proof of vaccination checking.
FNESC and IAHLA fully respect the authority of individual First Nations to make decisions related to post-secondary education in the best interests of their students, institutes, and communities.
We hope that you find this information helpful and we will continue to share information as it becomes available. For previous COVID-19 updates and resources, please visit www.fnesc.ca/covid19.
